A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles. – Tim Cahill

The best part of travelling is meeting new people. And the people we meet along the road leave an indelible impression on us. The journey can be more beautiful if you have someone to share the joys and pains of travelling with you. Yes, the people you meet while travelling is friends that you make for a lifetime.

New Year

Meeting old friends at odd places is always great

The joy of travelling is delightful and joys of making friends as we move are even more sublime. We have been travelling long and we were fortunate to make some wonderful friends while we were on our trips. And this list is being enriched each passing day.

friendship day

At Magnetic Hills – Leh

We have made some very good friends while on a trek. We can clearly remember our first Himalayan trek – the Roopkund. We were a team of 26 coming from different parts of the country and even outside the nation. By the end of the week, we were all fast friends. I think it is the place and the challenges a trek poses before the trekkers, make them bond so well. And then it was the Chadar trek. Meeting crazy minded people like us who comes to endure the freezing sub-zero temperatures of Ladakh in January to experience the joys of trekking is an experience in itself.

The Special 26 at Roopkund Summit

When you marvel at the golden sunrise on Mt. Kanchenjungha and the rays of the sun gradually falling on the Mt. Everest at Sandakphu with strangers, those people will remain friends for the rest of your life. You watch the mountains together in the morning and in the evening sit down with warm tea recollecting the marvellous sight you had just seen in the morning. After 6 days of hard and rigorous trekking, when you are at the top of Rupin pass clicking the photographs, you will always remember those people fondly. A smile will always come to your face when you think of them, remember how they helped you when you sprained your leg or was having difficulty while climbing a stretch.
