So what do you do when you are at the Kalchukki peak after an arduous, slippery trek and you get an invitation to visit the beautiful coastal town Mahabalipuram? You accept it graciously while wondering how he could get a mobile connection there! So here I was at the Chariot Beach Resort at Mahabalipuram with 34 other awesome bloggers.

Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram is one of the most scenic towns in the Coromandel Coast facing the Bay of Bengal. Being very close to Chennai (it takes only one and a half hour from Chennai), Mahabalipuram serves as a perfect weekend destination from Chennai. This coastal town is steeped in heritage, it was an ancient seaport since the 7th century and today it is the treasure trove of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Chariot Beach Resort Review

The cosiest choice in town: Chariot Beach Resort

The passing scenery took my full attention – the East Coast Road is one of the most scenic roadways of the country. The air was crisp when we reached the resort. And as soon as I was there, I fell in love with the place. A grand welcome awaited us as we entered the resort.

Inside the Chariot Beach Resort:

The lounge awaited us as we entered the resort. With large sofas and subtle decorations, the place looked elegant. The resort is spread across a sprawling area of 42 acres having a private beach, a swimming pool, activity zone and a wellness spa.

The rooms:

The resort has different categories of cottages that cater to the need of both privacy and luxury. The poolside cottages have direct access to the pool and the deluxe cottages have the best view of the sea and the pool.

My room was quite big and cosy. Sleeping in such a king-sized bed is so much relaxing.  I was happy that this place was going to be my home for the next couple of days.

One thing usually gets overlooked in hotels is the ironing facility. Here I was happy to find an iron and an ironing board at my disposal. The speciality of the rooms was that each bathroom had an attached area where you can bath under the stars.

Oh! Food. What can I say about it? I can only say good things about the food here.

The specialty dining restaurant Kapi offers a variety of delectable dishes, both continental and traditional South Indian. I did have a very difficult time while choosing my food; because all looked so delicious.

My sweet tooth was so much pampered here!

The Coast is the seaside dining area having a wonderful view of the sea. The best experience here is having a dinner of seafood and tandoor while the gentle sea breeze caresses you.

Panaam” is the place where you can relax with your friends while having your favourite drink and snacks.

The Olympic Pool:

The poolside is the best place to relax. The water babies will not be able to stop themselves from entering the blue waters of the pool. And non-swimmers like me would wish “only if I could swim”!

Detox at the Ayurvedic Spa:

One of the USPs of the resort is the Ayurvedic and Wellness Spa.You can not only get a relaxing spa here but can also get medicinal therapies for medical conditions. The staffs are quite knowledgeable about their work and you will be totally rejuvenated after a relaxing spa session here.

Other Activities:

The Chariot Neighbourhood Adventure Activity Village is a place where you can enjoy a number of adventure activities. For individuals, there is a range of activities to give you the adrenaline rush. For corporate groups, the set up is ideal for team building activities in an adventurous setting. The Activity Centre is one of its kinds in Mahabalipuram having an activity for everyone. For hosting official events there are conference halls that can look after the requirements of the corporate.

Event hosting:

I personally found that the resort is an ideal place for event hosting. The Rock Garden can host events and parties. You can also have a party by the pool. And the beachfront lawn is one of the places where you can get the best of the seashores and hospitality. This place is such a great venue for weddings and cocktail dinners.

The beach also has special arrangements for romantic evenings for the couples. A private candlelit dinner can be arranged by the beach for those seeking some special time with the special person in their life.

The Private Beach:

When you are at a beach destination, you will be on the lookout for the beach. The Chariot Beach Resort has a private beach away from the crowd where you can spend lovely moments. You can simply spend time by sitting at the beach and counting the waves breaking on the shore.

The beach is also monitored by their security so that there are lesser chances of any mishap. The resort can also arrange for a catamaran ride into the bouncy waters of Bay of Bengal.

My time at the Chariot Beach Resort:

It was a weekend filled with laughter, excitement and entertainment. After our extensive trips and treks to Karnataka (we did the Kudremukh Trek just a week before), my time at the resort was like a breath of fresh air. It was the rejuvenation and tranquillity that I was looking for. After the time I spent here, I was completely refreshed and was ready to dive headlong into the Durga Puja festivities back home.

Well, while I enjoyed my stay at the resort, I was quite impressed with their dining arrangements. Be the cocktail dinner party by the beach or the Dinner at the Rock Garden or the tea by the poolside, everything was quite enjoyable.

We had also gone for a catamaran ride to view the Shore temples that are submerged within the sea. It was quite an adventurous ride!

Being a heritage town, we did not miss a heritage tour of the town on the last day of our stay where we saw the architectural marvels of the previous eras.

The Verdict:

Well, it must have been clear by now that I would definitely stay again at the Chariot Beach Resort. I had experienced hospitality beyond compare at the Chariot Beach Resort.  The staffs were polite and quite helpful.  The place is a remarkable combination of serenity and luxury has everything for treating its guests with a memorable time.

  3. Arjuna’s Penance
  4. Krishna’s Butterball
  5. Thirukadalmallai Temple
  6. Mahishamardini Cave
